Save the date

This multiple-day cultural extravaganza was vibrant, fun, and meaningful. Embracing the Indian tradition of a wedding that spans over a few days, the couple planned out ways to infuse every celebration with their heritage. They choose a tropical theme for the weekend with different colors to fit each step of the wedding.Flora decorated for a wedding reception

The main event

To kick off the wedding weekend, the couple held a traditional Sangeet at Flora. This musical night was a celebration of not just the couple but the bonding of their families. Bhavika and Shivan’s loved ones danced, mixed and mingled together at this upbeat event. The food menu that Bhavika and Shivan chose for their Sangeet was a special ode to all of the places that they’ve lived together – California, Georgia, and the UK. The party was awash in bright shades of orange, yellow, purple, and pink, setting the fun tone for the rest of the weekend.

Details from Bhavika and Shivan's weddingThe next morning was the couple’s big day. Though it started with pouring rain, thought to be a sign of good luck, clear, sunny skies opened up to usher in the ceremony. The couple chose to hold their traditional Indian ceremony at Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla, CA with breathtaking views of the ocean as their backdrop.

The wedding began with a bang with a mobile Baraat (a celebratory procession for the groom accompanied by family members). The Baraat started from a car ride in La Jolla, complete with a mobile DJ to lead the group as they walked and danced down to the ceremony location. During this, Shivan and his immediate family drove, honking, and cheering to join the guests for more merriment outside the wedding venue. As Shivan arrived, his family and friends surrounded him in celebration of the ceremony that was about to take place.

The bride wore an intricately embellished mint and blush gown, and you could tell from the smile on Shivan’s face during the couple’s first look that he was enamored with how stunning Bhavika looked.

Wedding ceremony

For the ceremony, the couple chose to infuse their traditional wedding with modern elements. The venue was decorated in pastel hues of yellow, orange, and blush and featured a non-traditional mandap punctuated with lots of flowers and greenery. They also incorporated a turmeric ceremony and henna ceremony into the day.

The Party

This fun celebration continued with a reception at the serene Japanese Friendship Garden in the evening. Carrying on the eclectic tropical theme, the venue was decorated with mixed metals, light-wash wood, glittering candles, exotic fronds and flowers and jewel tones of blue, green, and fuchsia. While the beautiful blue and orange cake was an inspiring departure from the typical white. All of these vibrant elements highlighted Bhavika’s silver dress beautifully.

Throughout the night, the lively atmosphere was enhanced by lots of meaningful speeches, a performance by the UCSD Bollywood Dance team, and an entertaining round of the Wedding Shoe Game.

This dynamic and incredible evening ended with guests being safely whisked back to their hotels in charter buses. Given the weekend’s joyous mood, we can only imagine the fun that they all had during their ride.

We’re so honored to have been part of this vibrant, spirited, and dazzling wedding weekend. It was a fabulous example of a traditional and cultural affair, infused with the couple’s incredible style.
